We recently worked on a famous, Grade 1 Listed building. This particular building has been used as a period location for TV and film.
After site visit & estimate was accepted, various works were commissioned.
One of the works was an old lobby door (see right) on an old door pivot mechanism.
The Fire Risk Assessment required the door to be an FD30(S). As the door was structurally sound and the door was listed the door was deemed to be upgradable.
We decided to refit the door on hinges as the old pivot mechanism hardly worked. As the door was a lobby door and therefore a compartmentation door, the fire risk was on both sides. Plus also there was a shaped transom glazing panel above.
The works we performed involved:-
- Removing the door to the mobile workshop
- Strip out old door frame
- Removing existing glazing
- Power sanding down the door,
- Repairing the heal of the door where the bottom pivot mechanism had been attached
- Repairing the top of the door where the top pivot had been.
- Drilling each mortice & tenon joint twice to glue & plug the joints to give added strength to the structure of the door and future proof it.
- Paint the door with the 4 Part Envirograph Intumescent paint system to both sides of door
- Fit new Clear Pyro Glazing in hardwood Firecheck glazing baton with Intumescent seals to door.
- Fit new 32mm Door liner to existing frame with FD stop.
- Fit a new shaped hardwood frame to one side of the glazing transom fitted with clear Pyro glazing in Intumescent seals
- Fit the door onto the new frame, fit with Roller latch, Cold smoke intumescent seals & Approved FD hydraulic closer
- Fit Signage
